Internship: KPMG

"LDI has helped me the most by promoting the importance of professionalism, ethics, career management and networking.”

KPMG selected him right out of high school, providing him the opportunity to work for a “Big Four” accounting firm. For Jamelle, it was a privilege, but the position came with its obstacles. He admits that he was a little nervous about the expectations as a recent high school graduate at KPMG.

He recalls his initial feelings that summer. “I felt pressured to represent the perfect model of an INROADS Intern because not only was INROADS taking a chance on me, but my sponsoring company was, as well. Despite the anxiety, I successfully completed my first year and as a result, another high school graduate was hired to intern the following year.”

Jamelle reports that his mentor is successfully progressing within the company and often lends his advice to him. This is extremely helpful as he handles various “real-world” tasks such as researching prospective companies and preparing proposals. Jamelle set a good example at KPMG and plans to take advantage of his chances to gain as much experience as he possibly can.

He appreciates INROADS for its efforts and its ability to place underserved students in Fortune 500 companies. “It allows us to gain real world experience in the professional world. LDI has helped me the most by promoting the importance of professionalism, ethics, career management and networking.”
