"INROADS Interns have made the real difference in our business, bringing new perspectives and a fresh set of eyes to the operations we manage."
-Joe Myers
Is the development of future leaders exciting? It is, according to Joe Myers, INROADS Board of Director and mentor. “Interacting with these talented individuals has broadened my understanding of the diversity that resides in our country.” Joe has been an INROADS supporter and advocate since the summer of 1997, when invited to attend an INROADS banquet in Central Florida.
When Joe sees an INROADS Intern, he says he sees an individual who has high ethical standards, has a focus on continuous learning, and approaches life and work with a high energy level. He believes INROADS Interns are confident, but not arrogant, and can learn to connect the dots to see the bigger strategy and purpose.
“INROADS Interns have made a real difference in our business, bringing new perspectives and a fresh set of eyes to the operations we manage,” said Joe. “Our recruiting and hiring costs have been reduced because we're hiring professionals we already know. This has greatly improved our offer-to-hire ratios.”
Joe says that INROADS Interns at Lockheed Martin have made value-added contributions in their assignments throughout the four year rotations and, as a result, their managers have been able to witness and assess their skills prior to considering them for full-time employment. “When they complete their internships, we are able to hire new college graduates who have already proven themselves and who already understand Lockheed Martin's business. The investment we make in these interns comes back to us immediately as new hires who can ‘hit the ground running’ in a full-time position.”
As a mentor, Joe feels that he receives as much benefit from INROADS Interns as they “hopefully” receive from him. It is a symbiotic relationship.
"I recommend INROADS. It's a win-win proposition with both short-term and long-term benefits. How can any leader in business today pass up a proposition like that?"
