"INROADS does all of the heavy lifting..."
-Jim Walter
In the 21st century, multi-tasking is the order of the day, leaving busy executives less time, and in need of a partner to help them maintain their competitive edge. INROADS is that partner for Mattel, Inc. “INROADS does all the heavy lifting – they select viable, intelligent, enthusiastic candidates. We are, then, allowed to select those we feel are the best fit,” says Jim Walter.
Finding the best employees is critical for any company and “INROADS is the best way to identify talented underserved students, who are well-qualified, enthusiastic and professional,” says Jim.
Expectations are extremely high for INROADS Interns. “I expect INROADS Interns to exemplify intelligence, passion, enthusiasm, knowledge, and professionalism. It’s a lot to ask of a sophomore or junior in college, but INROADS has consistently delivered,” Jim adds.
Jim was sold on the INROADS process, shortly after he came to Mattel. “I became an instant supporter, based on the talent of the youth we were provided with. I, then, had the opportunity to attend the annual banquet and hear stories of a number of INROADS Interns. I was so moved by these stories that I asked about the possibility of a board position,” he adds. Jim is currently the Chair of the INROADS Pacific Southwest Board of Directors.
Jim was elected to the board in 2004 and says he has felt honored and blessed to serve as part of this wonderful organization.
“I have a much better appreciation of the challenges facing young college students today, particularly underserved students. I have also realized that, given the opportunity, most students will make the most of it, and appreciate the opportunity.”
