"I believe INROADS does an outstanding job of enlightening young people in what it takes to be successful in the real world."
-Avery Anderson
Avery joined INROADS as a high school junior through the INROADS pre-college component process. By his senior year, his serious-minded focus so impressed the recruiters at General Electric, that they offered him a scholarship and a summer job. Avery decided to push the envelope. He credits his INROADS leadership training and development with giving him the confidence and presence to ask for more. "I walked into the Senior Vice President's office and told him I appreciated the opportunity, but I really wasn't looking for a summer job." He walked out with the scholarship and a four-year commitment from GE to sponsor him as an INROADS Intern.
Avery believes INROADS does an "outstanding job of enlightening young people in what it takes to be successful in the real world. The most beneficial training is business etiquette—how to conduct yourself in a company environment. Sometimes we take that for granted, but it helps to build a foundation that teaches you to navigate the corporate culture."
As soon as Avery graduated, he converted to a full-time position and continued moving up the ranks at GE. Today, he travels the world extensively conducting audits - it's hard work, but he lives for it. Avery says he is looking forward to some downtime so that he can reconnect with INROADS, and give back to the organization that's made it possible for him to have so much. He plans to mentor other INROADS Interns, and facilitate some of the workshops offered during the annual INROADS Leadership Development Institute.
