Your Dreams, Your Money
INROADS College Links Offers Free Financial Education to Students & Families Preparing for College
Receiving a college degree can be a daunting task, especially with the increased costs of attendance and sometimes intimidating financial information. On April 27, 2013, INROADS College Links will combat fiscal fears by offering free financial education to students and their families in a program entitled Your Money, Your Dreams, presented by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago during Money Smart Week.
INROADS, Inc. (non-profit) is the nation’s largest provider of professional development training & coaching and corporate internships for underserved students. Founded in Chicago in 1970 and serving primarily college students, INROADS College Links was created in 2012, with generous support from the Executive Leadership Council, to provide education and opportunities specifically for high school students in Chicago and Washington D.C.
College Links program manager, Antoinette Mensah, believes that Money Smart Week, a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances, is an excellent time to provide further services to the community. “Making the transition from high school to college socially and financially is a big challenge for many families. So we are coming together to inform and prepare our community – for free.” Other program partners include the Economic Awareness Council, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, Junior Achievement of Chicago, and Young Illinois Saves.
This day-long session, beginning at 9:30 am, will teach budgeting skills, how to apply for financial aid for college, and even provide career exploration workshops. Attendees can also benefit from free individual consultations. To further your money knowledge, the Federal Reserve Bank’s is providing complimentary visits to their Money Museum. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
